AFTER DARK:MANTHRAAYANA
Emphasizing attentive listening—a core element of collective music-making—and the creative, cohesive use of space, the instrumental band Manthrayana was formed with these principles at its heart. The project emerged from the Musicmatters Institute of Jazz Studies (MMIJS), a nurturing ground for humanistic, truth-seeking musical exploration. Led by drummer Divanka Sewmin (The Soul), the ensemble features a rotating lineup of talented musicians: Odit Senrath and Kavin Harshana on guitars, Chalindu Sankalpa and Imalka Rathnapala on bass, Sumudi Suraweera on synth, and Pasindu Devinda on saxophone, all of whom fluidly interchange from one performance to the next.
