December in Sri Lanka: The 2026 Concert and Festival Calendar
December is when the Sri Lankan events calendar is at its fullest. The west and south coasts are drying out and the visitors are arriving. Offices are holding their year-end parties. Promoters are building to the 31st Night. And the December tickets go on sale early: by 3 October, ten December events were already on sale on TicketsMinistry, and some had already sold out their first tier.

How the month shapes up
- The first weekend is the big one. Five events in three days, including two bands from two generations (The Marians and News) sharing a stage for the first time, and a twelve-hour rave.
- The second weekend moves out of the city. Wayo at the Lake is back at Cinnamon Lakeside after two years, and Rise Up takes a full day on the south coast.
- The week before Christmas is seated Sinhala music. Both 19 December concerts are reserved seating, with a cast of established names.
- Christmas Day is a concert night. Sumihiri Mathakayan Legends Unplugged at BMICH is the only Christmas Day event on sale so far.
- Then the 31st Night, which has its own guide.
The mix is wider than most people expect from December: six concerts, three electronic events and a half marathon. It will grow. Promoters keep announcing through October and November, and the year-end parties come last.
Christmas, the Sri Lankan way
Christmas Day is a public holiday in Sri Lanka, but organisers rarely market anything as a Christmas event: across the live catalogue, almost nothing mentions Christmas, carols or Santa. The season is a time of year rather than a theme, so the useful way to search is by date. The December and festive season pages below pull every event in the window, whatever it calls itself.
One date to check if you are planning a party: Unduvap Poya falls in December. Alcohol sales are prohibited on Poya days, so promoters generally keep parties and drink-led events off that date. Check the calendar before you plan a night out around it.
The weather
December sits in the north-east monsoon, which brings rain to the east and north while the west and south coasts dry out. That is why the coast fills with visitors and why the beach parties start up again. Early December can still bring evening showers in Colombo, though. Outdoor events normally go ahead in light rain unless the organiser says otherwise, so check the event page and bring something waterproof.
Book in October, not December
December pricing rises in steps. FDY 0's first tier, Early Raver at LKR 7,000, has already sold out, and the next is LKR 8,000. That pattern repeats across the month: the cheapest tier on most events goes first and goes early, and the price moves up after it. A ticket bought in October costs less than the same ticket bought the week before.

As of 3 October 2026, ten December events are on sale on TicketsMinistry: concerts at Waters Edge, Musaeus College Auditorium, Cinnamon Lakeside, Negombo and BMICH, EDM events in Colombo, Kurunegala and Unawatuna, and the Kandy Half Marathon on 6 December. More are announced through October and November.
Are there events in Sri Lanka on Christmas Day?
Yes. Christmas Day is a public holiday, and in 2026 Sumihiri Mathakayan Legends Unplugged plays BMICH on 25 December. Few events are marketed as Christmas events, so search by date.
When should I buy December concert tickets in Sri Lanka?
In October or November. Most events release their cheapest tier first and raise prices once it sells out, and some December first tiers had already sold out by early October.

On the west and south coasts, generally yes: December is in the north-east monsoon, which mostly affects the east and north. Early December can still bring evening showers in Colombo, so check the event page and bring something waterproof.
