Musaeus College Auditorium: A Seating and Ticket Guide to Colombo's Busiest Concert Hall

    October 3, 2026·7 min read

If you have bought a ticket for a Sinhala music evening in Colombo in the last two years, there is a good chance it was for Musaeus College Auditorium. It is the busiest ticketed venue on TicketsMinistry by a clear margin: 60 events to date, ahead of Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre on 35 and Elphinstone Theatre on 32. And it has become that busy very quickly.

The 2026 figure is already higher than all of 2025 with three months still to run, and six more concerts are on sale between now and 19 December. These are TicketsMinistry listings, not a full count of everything the hall hosts, but the direction is not in doubt: this has become Colombo's default room for a seated concert.

    What plays there

Almost entirely seated music. Of the 60 events listed, 55 are indoor concerts, with a couple of electronic nights and the odd comedy show making up the rest. The programme leans heavily towards Sinhala music, and especially towards the legends-and-memories evening: the concerts on sale now include a reunion of The Moonstones, The Golden Chimes and The Super Golden Chimes, a tribute to Rukmani Devi, and a December bill with Sunil Edirisinghe, Keerthi Pasquel, Athula Adhikari and Athma Liyanage.

The auditorium sits in the grounds of Musaeus College, a girls' school in Colombo 07, and our venue data lists it at 1,422 seats. That size is a large part of its appeal: big enough for an established artist, small enough that nobody is far from the stage.

Every concert here is reserved seating

Every concert at Musaeus on sale today is reserved. You choose your exact seat on a seat map at checkout and it is yours, so there is no need to queue early for a good position. What you do need to understand is the tier structure, because it is less consistent than it looks.

Read the price and the map, not the tier name

Two things hold across every concert: the balcony is always the cheapest tier, and the best seats top out at LKR 10,000 to 15,000. Between those ends, the names mean nothing in particular. Each organiser draws its own tiers onto the same room.

    • A Gold seat costs LKR 6,000 at Chandrayamaya and LKR 10,000 at Four Notes. Same hall, same word, very different part of the room.
    • The top tier is called VIP at three concerts, Platinum at two and VVIP at one.
    • Echoes of Melodies splits the balcony into Upper (2,000) and Lower (3,000). That makes it the cheapest way into the hall this season.
    • Some concerts have four tiers and some have six, so the same price can buy a different row depending on the night.

The practical rule: open the seat map, see which block each price colours, and choose by position and price. If you went to one Musaeus concert in Gold, don't assume Gold at the next one puts you in the same place.

    Choosing a seat

    • For music-first evenings, the balcony is the value seat. You trade closeness for a full view of the stage and the band, and you pay roughly a third of the top tier.
    • For nostalgia concerts, where seeing the artist matters as much as hearing them, the front floor tiers are where the premium goes.
    • The cheapest tier tends to sell first. If the balcony is already gone, the next tier up is usually the better buy than waiting for returns.
    • Book a group in one transaction. Seats chosen together on the map are seats together on the night.

    On the night

    • Concerts start between 6.30pm and 7.30pm and generally finish between 10.30pm and 11.30pm.
    • This is a school hall, not a club. Expect a concert hall and seating rather than a bar, and eat before you go.
    • Colombo 07 gets busy on concert nights. Allow for parking, or take a ride-hailing app and avoid the problem.
    • Your ticket arrives by email straight after payment. Bring the QR on your phone; there is nothing to collect.
